About Buffalo Rock Tipi Camp

Buffalo Rock Tipi Camp is a family-owned cultural campground located on the Piikani Nation Reserve, set beside the Oldman River. Since 2015, the camp has welcomed guests to stay in one of six traditional tipis nestled within a cottonwood forest along two kilometers of riverfront. The camp offers immersive Indigenous experiences, including storytelling with Elders, sweetgrass gathering, language introductions, and ceremonial teachings that provide meaningful insight into Blackfoot traditions.

The site features rustic amenities such as an outdoor kitchen, fire pits, potable water, toilets, and basic facilities suitable for small gatherings. It serves both as a public campground and a unique event venue for weddings, pow-wows, school groups, and cultural retreats. Located just a short drive from Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump and Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park, the camp is ideally positioned for those looking to explore the cultural and natural heritage of Southern Alberta.

Buffalo Rock Tipi Camp offers a serene and respectful way to connect with the land, the culture, and the stories of the Piikani people.
