About Higginbotham Company
Located on the corner of 2nd avenue and 5th street south, the Higginbotham Company building is iconic for its original architecture, history, and location. Built in 1904, J.D. Higginbotham’s drug store was vital to the budding Lethbridge Community. J.D. Higginbotham was Alberta’s first pharmacist and the first president of the Alberta Pharmaceutical Society.
Fun fact: in 1909, Lethbridge had a curfew bylaw. J.D. Higginbotham’s drug store rang the curfew bell at 9pm each night to call home all children under the age of 14 until the duty was taken over by Fire Hall No. 1.
