About The Ghost of Paramount Theatre
The movies have ended at the former Paramount Theatre, but one local legend suggests a member of its crew was reluctant to leave.
Built in 1950, the Paramount once welcomed audiences for an evening at the cinema. In this recording, the Lethbridge Historical Society shares a story from its theatre days about a ghost said to be an old film projectionist.
One night, after the screenings and cleanup were finished, a worker returned to retrieve something he had forgotten. Inside, he spotted a man standing on the stage. He began explaining that the theatre was closed and the visitor would have to leave—then noticed he could see straight through him.
According to the tale, the figure slowly vanished into thin air.
The building has since found new uses, and the narrator leaves open whether anyone working there later experienced something similar. The encounter remains a local ghost story, with no certain answer about the figure’s identity.
As you take in the former theatre, imagine its screen lighting up, the audience settling into their seats and a projectionist preparing the evening’s film. Did his story end with the final screening—or is he still waiting for the next show?
